Software Development Interns - Waterloo University Remote - Fall Semester About Brave Brave is on a mission to protect the human right to privacy online. We’ve built a free web browser that blocks creepy ads and trackers by default, a private search engine with a truly independent index, private AI assistant, latest privacy and security features, and a private ad network (opt-in!) that directly rewards you for your attention. Already over 120 million people regularly use Brave for a faster, more private web. Millions more switch every month. The internet is a sea of ads, hackers, and echo chambers. Big Tech makes huge profits off our data, and tells us what’s true and what’s not. Brave is fighting back. Join us! Brave is hiring 2 Software Engineer interns this fall from Waterloo University to assist adding AI, security and privacy features to our products. Software Developer Co-op - Internship Role One Contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of data-intensive systems and AI-powered services. Key responsibilities include: • Build and maintain ETL pipelines for ingesting, transforming, and loading structured and unstructured data across internal systems • Develop backend services and tooling in Python and TypeScript to support data processing workflows and API integrations • Integrate and optimize LLM inference pipelines, including prompt engineering, model serving, and evaluation of large language model outputs • Deploy and manage containerized workloads on Kubernetes, including writing manifests, configuring autoscaling, and troubleshooting cluster issues • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve data quality, pipeline reliability, and system observability Software Developer (Privacy) Co-op - Internship Role 2 Contribute to the design, development, and shipping of privacy and security features in the Brave browser (based on Chromium), bringing cutting-edge protections to 115M+ users without breaking the Web. Key responsibilities include: • Prototype, implement, and ship privacy-enhancing features end-to-end in C++ or Rust for the Brave browser • Build browser-native privacy protections privacy-enhancing permissions and anti-fingerprinting defenses • Navigate and contribute to an extremely large, complex codebase, applying knowledge of the Web security model and Chromium's architecture • Work with Web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to develop and validate browser features • Collaborate async with a geographically-distributed, open source team using Git and GitHub Working at Brave - What we offer • Ability to work at an exciting and well-funded international startup headquartered in San Francisco • Cutting-edge technology, allowing you to work with state-of-the-art tools and software solutions • Competitive compensation of $6000.00 per month for 3 months • Great international exposure and team atmosphere If you are currently a student at Waterloo University, we would love to hear from you.
