Job description

IMC is a global market maker, using advanced technology and sophisticated strategies to trade across major financial markets. With offices in Amsterdam, Chicago, and Sydney, we combine deep market expertise with cutting-edge systems to provide liquidity around the clock. Our China Commodities desk trades a broad range of products across China's commodity markets, spanning energy, precious metals, and base metals. Combining market expertise, research, and technology, we identify and capture opportunities across one of the world's most significant commodity ecosystems. As we continue to expand this business, we are looking for an experienced Commodities Trader to develop and execute China-focused trading strategies. Working closely with analysts, quantitative researchers, and technologists, you will help identify opportunities, manage risk, and drive the growth of the desk. Your Core Responsibilities: • Develop, execute, and scale profitable trading strategies across Chinese commodities markets (e.g., energy, precious metals, base metals). • Trade futures and related derivatives on major Chinese exchanges (SHFE, DCE, ZCE, INE, GFEX) and relevant offshore venues. • Integrate fundamental research, macroeconomic analysis, and geopolitical developments into trading decisions. • Partner closely with the Commodities Analyst team to incorporate insights on supply/demand dynamics, inventory trends, shipping flows, regulatory developments, and government policy into actionable strategies. • Identify and position around upcoming market catalysts, volatility events, and structural dislocations. • Generate directional and volatility-driven trade ideas based on global and domestic Chinese market intelligence. • Work alongside quantitative researchers and technologists to refine execution, enhance data-driven decision-making, and scale systematic components of strategies. • Actively manage risk, including exposure to macro events, liquidity shifts, regulatory changes, and cross-border dynamics. • Contribute to continuous improvement of research frameworks, dashboards, and trading tools in collaboration with the Analyst and technology teams. Your Skills and Experience: • Proven track record trading Chinese and/or global commodities futures and derivatives with consistent risk-adjusted returns. • Strong understanding of Chinese commodity markets, macroeconomic drivers, and geopolitical influences. • Deep knowledge of Chinese exchange rules, margin frameworks, and regulatory environment. • Demonstrated ability to translate fundamental and macro analysis into clear trading positioning. • Experience collaborating with analysts, quantitative researchers, and developers in a data-driven trading environment. • Strong risk management discipline and ability to trade around event-driven volatility. • Familiarity with Python, SQL, Bloomberg, or other analytics platforms is advantageous. • Ability to operate decisively in a fast-paced, competitive trading environment. About Us IMC is a research-driven trading firm where quantitative modeling, machine learning, and engineering shape how modern markets are traded. A stabilizing force in markets since 1989, we provide liquidity across trading venues, delivering the best outcome in value and risk management to investors. Using our own technology and capital, we build proprietary systems and algorithms that operate across global markets. Our researchers, traders, and engineers work as a collective, combining rapid experimentation, advanced infrastructure, and real-time feedback to turn insight into execution and execution into advantage.
