Job description

IMC’s Risk Team works closely with our Trading and Technology teams to manage and mitigate the risks associated with IMC’s trading strategies across a wide range of products, exchanges, and technologies. The team is responsible for identifying and assessing risks, determining appropriate controls, and developing metrics and tools to monitor them. It acts as a key stakeholder in ensuring the firm’s business activities remain within its risk appetite, engaging directly with the business to review and challenge risk management actions. The APAC region presents a significant opportunity and IMC has ambitious plans to grow its presence in the region and expand its trading footprint. As we pursue these opportunities, we are looking to deepen our risk expertise and strengthen our market risk capabilities accordingly. This role offers the opportunity to be part of that journey and to play a central role in building a best-in-class market risk function. Your Core Responsibilities: • Market Risk Framework: Understand the various positions taken by the firm and roll out market risk limits and policies, ensuring they are consistently applied across all trading activities. • Trading Partnership: Build trusted relationships with trading teams to understand strategies, provide independent challenge on market risks, and work collaboratively to ensure risks remain within the firm’s risk appetite. • Risk Identification: Collaborate on the design and implementation of relevant stress tests and scenario analysis for various Derivatives and Delta1 strategies. • Daily Monitoring: Ensure relevant risk measures, controls, and processes are in place, running daily monitoring and reporting processes to stakeholders accurately and on time. • Reporting: Prepare regular and ad-hoc market risk reports and analysis, providing detailed information and analysis to trading & management. • New Product & Strategy Approval: Support the new product and strategy approval process by identifying risks and constructively challenging different trading ideas. • Build Tools: Build and improve dashboards, reporting, and monitoring tools to strengthen risk visibility and response capabilities. • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain relationships with counterparts at clearing and exchanges to ensure compliance with regulations and capital requirements. Your Skills and Experience: • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Engineering, or a similar field. Professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) are an added bonus. • Around 5 years of work experience in a front office risk management role at a proprietary trading firm, hedge fund, or similar. • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret large datasets, investigate trading behaviour and develop data-driven risk insights. • Good understanding of options theory, derivatives, and financial products, including the key market risk characteristics and practical application of option structures, pricing and risk concepts. • Demonstrated market risk experience across one or more asset classes, including listed equities, commodities, foreign exchange, and fixed income with the ability to quickly develop expertise in new products. Experience with Asian equity markets is highly regarded. • Proven track record of managing projects that span multiple stakeholders, teams, and locations. • Proficiency in Python programming and knowledge of AI tools is essential. • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, with the ability to solve problems creatively and proactively. • Ability to prioritize, act, and perform successfully in a fast-moving and high-pressured environment. About Us IMC is a research-driven trading firm where quantitative modeling, machine learning, and engineering shape how modern markets are traded. A stabilizing force in markets since 1989, we provide liquidity across trading venues, delivering the best outcome in value and risk management to investors. Using our own technology and capital, we build proprietary systems and algorithms that operate across global markets. Our researchers, traders, and engineers work as a collective, combining rapid experimentation, advanced infrastructure, and real-time feedback to turn insight into execution and execution into advantage.
