What the role asks for
What you'd do
- Own end to end: work with engineers and agent PMs to deeply understand the problem, explore solutions, execute, ship, absorb feedback, and iterate. You're accountable for outcomes.
- Embrace innovation and change: pair with AI to clarify your thinking, stress-test edge cases, and validate ideas fast. Experiment with and build high-leverage systems for your own design process using AI.
- Figure it out: talk to customers, find the person with the answer, run your own experiments. Do whatever it takes to get the information you need with speed and precision.
- Build the full picture: prototype initial designs with Cursor / Claude to validate ideas and interaction patterns quickly; refine the craft in Figma. Think → prototype in code → validate → polish.
- Build the design system: develop and maintain a flexible design system that ensures efficiency, visual cohesion, and smooth integration with engineering workflows. The system should make the team faster and more consistent than ever.
- Be opinionated: develop strong views on tools, prompts, methods, our product, and how we work. Challenge the team on assumed truths. Test and experiment ideas and share learnings. Push the direction. Design is an enabler; never a blocker.
- Proven experience: you've designed and shipped something complex. You've had to make real decisions with real tradeoffs, not just execute someone else's spec.
- Ownership: you create your own direction, form your own opinions, and figure out how to deliver without waiting for permission or perfect information.
- Communication: crisp, honest, direct. You write well, present well, and know when to be brief.
- Team player: great collaborator and mediator. Navigate different stakeholders (eng, product, ops, customers, leadership) with cohesion and clarity.
- AI fluent: you're fluent in AI tools and actively applying them to your design process with intention.
