Job description

The Role We are seeking a technically minded, analytically driven intern to join our Operations division, sitting within the Operational Risk team at Schonfeld, based in our São Paulo office. You’ll work directly with Operations senior management and across peer groups in all areas, while being immersed in the culture and atmosphere of Schonfeld - working alongside talented professionals on high-profile projects. Ops Risk sits at the core of Schonfeld’s control architecture - driving the governance, ownership, and scalability initiatives that underpin a sustainable operating model, built to serve all teams and designed to evolve as the firm grows. Every member of the Operations team plays a critical role in executing and maintaining these controls. Uniquely, this role is not functionally aligned to a single team or process. You’ll gain genuine exposure across all of Operations, developing a real understanding of the front-to-back flow of trading activity and the many stakeholders involved at each stage - from trading desks and portfolio managers through settlement, risk, and senior management. Few opportunities offer this breadth of visibility, and the perspective you build will be invaluable. What You’ll Do Your work will center on two core focus areas: Data Extraction & Analytics • Build the data extraction pipelines that make operational risk visible across Schonfeld’s systems, asset classes, and global markets. • Work closely with each operational team to learn their processes, systems, and data flows. • Ensure the data captured is accurate, consistent, and governed by a robust framework. KRI Framework & Oversight Tool • Turn that data into a centralized view of risk and performance for the Operations team. • Build a KRI framework and oversight tool that give clear, consistent visibility across the platform. • Refine the metrics, thresholds, and displays iteratively so they stay meaningful and useful. What You’ll Bring • Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline • A technically minded approach - comfort working with data, identifying patterns, and thinking systematically about processes • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy; you understand why data integrity matters in a fast-moving environment • Proficiency in Excel; familiarity with SQL or Python is a plus and will be well-utilized in this role • Effective communication skills - able to ask the right questions, flag issues clearly, and document work in a way others can build on • A proactive, self-starting attitude with the ability to manage your own workload and meet deadlines • An interest in financial markets, operational risk, or hedge fund infrastructure is welcomed but not required What You’ll Gain • Exposure to the full trade life cycle - execution, post-trade processing, and settlement - across a broad range of products and asset classes. • Hands-on experience building live operational risk infrastructure, including a KRI framework for global Operations. • Close mentorship from an experienced Ops Risk professional, with day-to-day guidance. • A uniquely broad, cross-functional vantage point across all of Operations - rare visibility that builds valuable relationships and perspective.
