We are proud to be recognized on CNBC World's Top Fintech Companies. https://www.cnbc.com/worlds-top-fintech-companies-2026/ THE ROLE As a Senior Backend Engineer, you'll be a key owner of the product and building the infrastructure behind it. You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to shape features from idea to production, building the financial primitives that power businesses. This is a hands-on role for engineers who care deeply about what they build and why they build it. For the right candidate, it's a rare chance to leave a lasting mark on an industry-defining product. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Own features end-to-end: from product design and API contracts through implementation, testing, and deployment. - Collaborate directly with product and design to define requirements, push back when needed, and help make smart tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope. - Build reliable, well-crafted backend services that power Unit's Banking, Payments, and Cards products. - Write APIs and backend logic that developers love to use: with a focus on clarity, correctness, and a great developer experience. - Contribute to architectural decisions and help raise the engineering bar across the team. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - 5+ years of backend development experience, ideally in a product-driven environment where you've owned features - A product mindset: you ask "why are we building this?" and you care about the customer experience, not just the technical implementation. - Comfort working across the full backend lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and on-call ownership. - Experience building and maintaining reliable systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure). - Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, availability, failure modes, and observability. - Experience with CI/CD and modern deployment practices. - Fintech, payments, or developer-platform experience is a strong plus. - Production experience with Kubernetes - advantage. - Experience with Scala, ZIO, Cats, or functional programming - advantage. - Familiarity with DDD, Event Sourcing, or CQRS - advantage. #LI-Hybrid LIFE AT UNIT Working at Unit means helping shape the future of financial technology.
