How to find a job you'll like
Tips for searching smart, picking the right jobs, and applying with confidence.
- Search by job and city, or leave the city blank to search everywhere.
- Compare the job's requirements with examples from your own work.
- Choose the jobs that fit, then check every line of your application.
Search for the right words
Companies use different names for the same job. Try a few. A product manager might also be called a product owner or a program manager.
Use the filters to narrow by posted pay, where you work, job type, or date. If nothing matches, remove a filter or try a nearby city.
Check if a job fits you
Read what the job asks for and compare it with work you have done. Keep an example for each requirement you can support. A missing example is a prompt to check your records, not a reason to invent one.
Check the pay
When a job lists a pay range, check its currency and whether it is hourly or yearly. WageScope can help you compare it with published pay estimates for that occupation and place.
A market estimate is a guide. It is not a promise of what a particular employer will offer.
Apply with a résumé made for the job
Pick the wins that show the skills this job needs. MeritLog can help you prepare a draft from the evidence you saved. Check every line, make your changes, and submit it yourself.
Keep track of every job
Keep the job link, your application, and the next step together. Move a job along as you apply, hear back, interview, or receive an offer.
